MEDIA ADVISORY: Verity's Chief Technology Officer to Speak on Text and XML Querying at the 2004 Search Engine Meeting

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-04-14 - Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan, vice president and chief technology officer of Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, will give a speech at Infonortic's 2004 Search Engine Meeting on Monday, April 19, 2004, in The Hague, Netherlands.

Dr Raghavan's presentation will focus on Xquery and other proposed XML query standards that have taken a data-centric view, revolving around structured data. Textual and other content with relatively low structure require the rich query capabilities that text query engines have built up. Dr Raghavan will present a vision for applications that will require semi-structured querying as envisioned by Xquery and other standards, while simultaneously demanding full text searching within XML elements.
