Mexico's Social Security Administration Opts for Verity K2 Enterprise Software
Verity Software Central to Modernization of Agency?s Intellectual Capital Management System
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-04-06 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced another major public sector organization, the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), Mexico?s social security administration, has selected Verity® K2 Enterprise (K2E) intellectual capital management software to provide comprehensive search, classification and recommendation capabilities to its web portal and intranet.
IMSS is the largest government agency in Latin America by both budget size and number of employees, with one in every 260 Mexican citizens working for it. The agency is responsible for administering Mexico's health care programs, pension system, and social services. It also plays a crucial role in helping both the public and private sectors to locate and evaluate information on health patterns, treatment, and financial aid programs, as well as identifying experts in the social service areas for them. In addition, IMSS is an educational resource for the country's healthcare professionals, who draw on the agency's extensive research data on public health and certification programs.
With the high volume of information that IMSS generates and consumes every day, the agency recognized the need to improve and modernize its intellectual capital management system. IMSS' information aggregation, access and sharing were becoming cumbersome, time-consuming and fraught with frustrating problems. With Verity K2E, IMSS will be able to manage information from different databases and sources to meet the needs of the local citizens and the Mexico government. This will allow documents such as Medical Electronic Records to be easily located and retrieved.
An aggressive portal technology initiative is being deployed to make the IMSS system far less paper-dependent, creating online accessibility to information nationwide with fast, accurate search and content organization a centerpiece of the effort.
"It became clear the ability to find and organize IMSS' intellectual capital online were top priorities of this effort," said Ignacio Orejel, manager, Internet division of IMSS. "After assessing a number of possible solutions, we found Verity K2 Enterprise would best allow us to create a system that supports decision-making as well as analytical and educational activities. IMSS is committed to serving its 45 million constituents as effectively as possible. One of our goals is to understand what processes or programs are prompting complaints from citizens. The Verity K2E software will allow such understanding to be realized and analyzed, which will enable our institution to resolve the complaint in a timely and cost-effective manner."
The IMSS also recognized classification, the process of organizing content or information into taxonomies, was critical to ensure highly relevant and fast search results. Verity's flexible approach to automatically organize content with domain expertise was appealing to IMSS.
"The Verity software will enable IMSS to organize its data and maintain it over time as the volume grows on a real-time basis," said Orejel.
"Verity is proud to have its K2 Enterprise software play an important role in the newly modernized IMSS intellectual capital management system," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and CEO. "The use of K2 Enterprise for information access and retrieval as well as analysis by the Mexican government agency reflects the software's comprehensive capabilities, its flexibility in dealing with the extensive range of content and integral IT systems, and versatility in serving the needs of all who look to IMSS for information, answers and support."
