Autonomy Announces Singapore Civil Defence Force Contract
CAMBRIDGE, England - April 6 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software, today announced that the Singapore Civil Defence Force has selected Autonomy's technology to power the organization's knowledge management portal. Autonomy provides critical information support across the organization. Autonomy's information infrastructure supports the Singapore Civil Defence Force in its mission to protect and save life and property for Singapore's 4 million population.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force uses Autonomy's technology to automate a wide variety of tasks, such as the retrieval, hyperlinking, tagging, categorization and routing of documents from a range of sources, which had previously been reliant upon manual effort. As a well-established, premier emergency service provider, the Singapore Civil Defence Force recognizes the need to harness on the latest technology in order to continue providing outstanding levels of protection to the people they serve. James Tan, Commissioner of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, has long recognized the importance of innovation, "we must evolve with times, keep up with changes in technology and adapt to face the challenges ahead or we risk becoming irrelevant."
Autonomy enables the Singapore Civil Defence Force's employees to have one point of access to a vast quantity of information held throughout the organization. Dynamic functionality such as automatic hyperlinking, agent profiling, alerts and expertise location enable employees to be confident that they always have access to the most up to date and relevant information. Autonomy's agent profiling and expertise locator functions establish and promote areas of expertise within the organization; employees are automatically connected to relevant specialists in real-time to ensure that critical information and expertise is used as wisely as possible. Before the Singapore Civil Defence Force's deployment of Autonomy, tagging and the location of information held within the organization was a slow manual process. By automating the manually intensive tasks of tagging, retrieving, categorizing and routing information, Autonomy empowers Singapore Civil Defence Force's employees to concentrate their energies on their core activities, protecting and saving lives.
"Autonomy has long provided vital support to defense organizations throughout the world, including several high profile United Kingdom and United States agencies," said Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director of Autonomy. "We are pleased to extend our geographical scope in providing the Singapore Civil Defence Force with the information infrastructure that will help safeguard the security of its citizens."
LTC Jeganathan Ramasamy, Director of Technology Department of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, said, " Our work is dependent upon rapid response times and making the best possible use of resources, both in terms of information and expertise. Since our deployment of Autonomy, we have seen a significant reduction in the time our employees spend searching for information. Autonomy has enabled us to draw all our information from multiple repositories together, making sure that we have instant access to potentially life saving information and expertise."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
