International IT Consultancy Chooses Verity to Organize its Intellectual Capital
Softlab Uses Verity K2 Enterprise Software for Intranet Search
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2004-03-16 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that enables organizations to maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced that Softlab, a German-based IT consulting and systems integrations company that is part of the BMW Group, has selected Verity® K2 Enterprise (K2E) advanced search, classification and personalization software to access, evaluate and organize the content in its content repositories.
Softlab, a 30 year-old company that has been a BMW Group Company for over ten years, focuses on business and technology areas critical to the future of the banking, insurance, telecommunications and manufacturing industries, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Business Intelligence (BI), Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and IT services. Softlab generates considerable amount of intellectual capital on a daily basis, from proposals, project analyses and reports to research studies and more.
According to Dr. Claudia Salazar Dorn, Softlab's project leader of enterprise application solutions, "Like many global companies, Softlab's knowledge base consists of hundreds and thousands of files in different formats and languages. As a result, we needed powerful search and content organization capabilities to help our worldwide consultants find information quickly and accurately. Enhancing their productivity is a key factor in the continued success of our organization."
After extensive evaluation of available search and content organization technologies on the market, Softlab selected Verity K2E software. The company found that the Verity product provides outstanding search support for how its information is indexed, including Web, ODBC gateways and file formats. In addition, Verity K2E enables two critical factors that are required for effective enterprise class content organization, including a comprehensive range of taxonomy creation and management capabilities that permit the flexibility to augment automatic classification processes with domain expertise to organize information reflective of the way a business is organized, as well as an intellectual capital management system that populates those taxonomies in a highly accurate manner.
"User response to the Verity K2E implementation has been very positive," Dorn said. "Usage of our intranet has almost doubled since the deployment of Verity K2E. The intranet content is now better organized and easier to access and retrieve information."
As a result of the successful initial deployment, Softlab plans to roll out Verity K2E's taxonomy creation and management capabilities to other data areas that remain to be indexed and extend the use of the software's social networking functions to link project managers to documents and to the people who created them. Softlab also believes that Verity's Parametric Selection, which searches repositories based on user-set definitions, will be effective for the firm's personnel.
"Softlab's selection of Verity is strong proof of K2 Enterprise's ability to improve the productivity and effectiveness of the personnel of global enterprises," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and CEO. "We are pleased that BMW's Softlab has selected Verity K2E to play an important role in their intellectual capital management system."
In addition, Softlab plans to implement Verity&Mac226; Data Discovery Program, a new Professional Services offering that enables global enterprises to reduce data storage and management costs significantly by analyzing the data that are contained in their content repositories. The Verity Data Discovery Program helps to identify and eliminate outdated files in content repositories, which enables users to locate relevant information more rapidly. This allows users more time to make use of the information, increasing their productivity.
Until recently Softlab operated several isolated intranets by country and practice area. The combination of a new content management system and Verity K2E software allowed the company to eliminate the different domains and operate one multi-faceted site. In addition, Softlab has extended the Verity K2E capabilities to the intranet of Nexolab, a Softlab Company specializing in e-consulting for the automotive industry.
