Autonomy to power intelligent retrieval for Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment's website
Cambridge, England, February 24, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that is has been selected by the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM), to play a pivotal role in powering the agency's public facing website, www.vrom.nl. The Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment will use Autonomy's IDOL infrastructure to automatically index, search, retrieve and hyperlink content on the site.
Keen to develop and improve their communication with Dutch citizens, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, who are, for instance, responsible for national policy and legislation on spatial planning, house-building, environmental control and waste management, recognized the need to extend their e-government strategy. The Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment's deployment of Autonomy provides internet users with intelligent retrieval and hyperlinking functions enabling rapid, real-time access to a vast corpus of information. Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) automatically forms a conceptual understanding of site content in both Dutch and English and provides advanced search, retrieval and hyperlinking functions to direct users to highly relevant content.
Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director, Autonomy said, "www.vrom.nl is a key strategic development for the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment; by implementing leading edge information infrastructure technology, the Ministry is improving both the quality of information available and accessibility to citizens."
Following the success of using Autonomy's IDOL technology on their intranet, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment decided to extend their agreement to encompass their public facing website. Autonomy's language independent technology, with advanced retrieval and hyperlink features enables the Ministry to improve the quality of visits to the site: users now have rapid access to the information they require. By increasing the quality and accuracy of information, Autonomy helps drive user satisfaction and encourages users to return to the site."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
