Autonomy's Technology Selected to Power France Telecom's Corporate Intranet
Cambridge, England - February 9th 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU) a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that France Telecom, one of the largest global telecommunications carriers with over 111.7 million clients and 240,000 employees, has selected Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) to power the organization's intranet.
France Telecom recognized the need to develop a sophisticated information infrastructure capable of delivering rapid access to vital information to its employees throughout the world in order to capitalize on their position as a leading provider of wireless, internet, fixed line services and corporate solutions. Their decision to purchase Autonomy's intelligent infrastructure follows an evaluation of legacy, keyword based technologies.
Autonomy will provide fundamental support to France Telecom's employees by forming a conceptual understanding of content, irrespective of format or storage location. Interactive technology, including the automatic delivery of dynamic hyperlinks and automatic analysis of how employees use and produce information enables users to be connected to pertinent content in real-time. Unlike more traditional vendors, Autonomy's unique IDOL technology was able to offer France Telecom a language independent solution suitable for an international supplier.
Christian Schneiter, Project Manager for Front Office Applications, France Telecom today commented, "Autonomy has dramatically changed the way our employees are able to access and use information. Users now have access to the information they need automatically; moreover, Autonomy's dynamic hyperlinking feature forms associations between documents and links users directly to potentially critical information. We have seen a significant reduction in time spent searching for information allowing our sales force to concentrate on delivering better value to customers, increasing productivity for the company. Autonomy will play an important part in helping us meet our objective to become one of the top performing telecommunications operators in Europe by 2005."
Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director of Autonomy said, "We are pleased to be able to provide the information infrastructure to support France Telecom's intranet and provide access to key information for its employees. Our unique IDOL technology detects relationships between information in any language allowing us to provide support and assistance to France Telecom's employees right across the enterprise. We look forward to helping France Telecom meet their targets."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
