Autonomy Announces Multi-Lingual Swedish Government Contract
Cambridge, England - January 26th, 2004 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that The Swedish Agency of Public Management has selected Autonomy to power the government's public information portal site, Sweden Direct www.sverigedirekt.se
Autonomy has been awarded the Swedish Government contract to develop and maintain the public facing portal which will provide Sweden's nine million citizens with information from the public sector. As a provider of public services, it is imperative that The Swedish Agency of Public Management has the infrastructure capable of providing its citizens with information about its activities.
The multi lingual site, powered by Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) technology aggregates over 1.8 million documents in eight languages (English, Swedish, French, Spanish, German, Finnish, Bosnian and Serbian) stored across 1100 repositories. Users will now have a single online point of access for information about public services and facilities irrespective of language, format or storage location. The Swedish Agency of Public Management's decision to purchase Autonomy follows an evaluation of technology available.
Using the unique IDOL technology, Autonomy automatically forms a conceptual understanding of content and indexes internal and external material in order to provide superior information management, retrieval and delivery of information services. Unlike other vendors, Autonomy was able to offer The Swedish Agency of Public Management a conceptual search facility which uses natural language to understand and anticipate users' specific requirements.
Dominic Johnson, Group Marketing Director of Autonomy, today commented: "We are pleased to be powering such a high profile project in Sweden. This contract is one of a number of prestigious government wins for Autonomy and affirms Autonomy's dominance in this sector."
Jenny Birkestad, Director of the Department for Electronic Civic Information at The Swedish Agency of Public Management said "Autonomy will deliver crucial assistance to our users throughout Sweden. Using Autonomy we are now able to deliver a comprehensive accessible solution, which allows all users rapid access to the information they require. Autonomy's technology provides us with a solid foundation for the portal and scope to develop the project in the future."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
