America Online, Inc. (AOL) Chooses Autonomy's Virage Technology For Video Broadcast Platform

SAN MATEO, Calif. December 09, 2003 -- Virage, Inc. a wholly owned division of Autonomy Corp. (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.) and a leading provider of video and rich media communication software, today announced that America Online, Inc., the world's leading interactive services company, had chosen Virage to power its video content delivery platform through the AOL(r) Broadband service.

AOL will use Virage Application Services to provide content processing for Video@AOL, a powerful new global video hub with a broad collection of broadband content, including news, music, movies, television, sports, local weather, games, travel, and original programming. Video@AOL is a premier, one-stop, on-demand video destination. Together with built-in safety and security features, advanced communication tools, custom spam filters, and "anywhere, anytime" AOL features, Video@AOL makes AOL for Broadband the most complete broadband experience that can be added to any basic cable or DSL connection.

America Online is also using Virage's built-in capabilities to assemble content reels and assign them to AOL channels. For high-volume content such as breaking news, AOL is using the software's auto-packaging feature to make 3rd party content feeds immediately available on Video@AOL. Using Virage, AOL producers can program more timely and relevant broadband content for AOL members. AOL is the industry's leading Internet broadcaster, according to Arbitron.

"Our goal is to deliver the industry's best broadband experience to our members while also providing superior branding, advertising and commerce opportunities to our content partners," said George Escobar, executive director of broadband services for AOL Broadband. "After looking at a variety of solutions, we decided that Virage has the right combination of experience and technology to meet our needs."

"We are processing a wide variety of content feeds automatically and adding hundreds of new video assets per week. So far, we've created an index of thousands of videos on our hosted servers. There is certainly a lot of content available to the AOL programmers and the AOL for Broadband end users," reports John Krull, senior director of Application Services at Virage.

"We're proud to be working with a broadband leader such as AOL," said Paul G. Lego, chief executive officer of Virage. "The time is right for content services dedicated to broadband consumers, and we're excited to work alongside AOL to provide the best consumer experience."
