Compuware Integrates Verity Ultraseek, with its OptimalView Application

Verity Enterprise Search Engine's Ease of Deployment and Use Compliments OptimalView's Characteristics

SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2003-11-18 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that helps organizations maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced Compuware Corp. (NASDAQ: CPWR) has selected the Ultraseek technology to provide the search and indexing capabilities within its OptimalView application. The Ultraseek technology was formerly known as Inktomi Enterprise Search prior to its acquisition by Verity in December 2002.

"Compuware selected Ultraseek for OptimalView because of the search engine's ease of use and configuration, as well as the speed of its spidering technology," said Bob Barker, vice president of strategic planning at Compuware Corp. "These characteristics enable Ultraseek to be rapidly implemented and provide immediate benefit to customers. Of course, this is a hallmark of OptimalView, an easy to install and use web-based application deployment framework that provides enterprises with a single point of access to all relevant aspects of a business, including information, applications and processes."

Prior to selecting Ultraseek, Compuware conducted an extensive evaluation of several search engines available on the market. The company found that Ultraseek was much easier to install compared to most of the other offerings they evaluated. Administrators were able to install Ultraseek within minutes, without prior training or exposure to the search technology. Compuware also found that the search engine supports a wider variety of environments and platforms than most of the others on the market. Verity Ultraseek's extensible architecture and easy integration capabilities enable Compuware to seamlessly integrate OptimalView with other third party products without extensive programming efforts, resulting in a complete customer solution with a single user interface.

"Compuware OptimalView shares essentially the same strategic foundation as Verity Ultraseek - both aim to deliver ease of deployment and use, as well as excellent results to end users," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and CEO. "This commonality serves to further enhance the appeal of OptimalView to those who administer the application framework and those who use it. Verity Ultraseek and OptimalView together create a unified information delivery mechanism."

"The way Compuware OptimalView users search for information varies from person to person, by the content being sought, by their job responsibilities, and whether the content is internal or external to OptimalView, to name a few factors," said John Crossno, product manager of OptimalView at Compuware Corp. "Verity Ultraseek's ease of use provides an immediate benefit to the average OptimalView user, and has advanced features available for their power users."

Ultraseek is a downloadable search engine that can be deployed rapidly for organizations of all sizes that need to locate intellectual capital contained in multiple file formats within and outside of their enterprises. It provides superior search relevance, with easy, effective administration, proven reliability and extremely low total cost of ownership. The product's intelligent, adaptive spider indexes all of the enterprise data into a common Ultraseek Index that is searchable with a single query.
