Autonomy to Power Entergy's Enterprise Information Portals

United States Second Largest Nuclear Power Generator to Use Autonomy's Infrastructure Technology for Litigation Support, Nuclear Southeast Division and Web Integration Project

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. , October 31, 2003 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Entergy, the United States second largest nuclear energy producer, selected Autonomy's infrastructure technology to power several enterprise portals for litigation support and information management.

Autonomy will provide the infrastructure technology that aggregates and enables advanced concept-based retrieval across a Documentum data repository used by Entergy's Litigation Support Group. This specialized information portal will allow the legal team to identify important concepts across document archives. In addition, Autonomy will provide concept-based retrieval behind an enterprise information portal for Entergy's Web Integration Project.

Entergy Nuclear Southeast will also use Autonomy's technology to integrate information for four of its geographic locations. At each site, Autonomy's technology will help employees utilize more than one terabyte of information. This will give them better access to nuclear regulatory safety and licensing documents.

The nuclear power industry uses complex terminology. Autonomy's software is able to understand the concepts meanings of words rather than just matching keywords. For example, when an employee requires material associated with power facility operating conditions (5059), Autonomy's technology will deliver the appropriate contextual documents, not just pages of text containing those numbers.

"We are providing Entergy with an advanced information infrastructure that enables the automatic management and rapid discovery of content," said Mike Lynch, CEO and co-founder, Autonomy. "Autonomy's software works across multiple data types, including legacy applications. With Autonomy's unique technology, Entergy will be able to integrate information in a highly scaleable and efficient manner."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
