Autonomy Powered DTi i-BIO Site Wins Prestigious British Computer Society Business Achievement Award 2003
i-Bio Web Service Wins Public Sector Category of BCS IT Professional Awards 2003 securing another Autonomy BCS distinction for the second year running
CAMBRIDGE, UK - September 25, 2003 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, is proud to announce that the Autonomy powered Department of Trade and Industry i-BIO web service (http://www.i-bio.co.uk/) has been awarded The British Computer Society's Business Achievement Award in the Public Sector/Not for Profit category of its inaugural IT Professional Awards 2003, presented last night in the Awards Presentation Dinner at London's Park Lane Hilton. This follows on from a BCS award in 2002 to another Autonomy powered online service, which was presented to ISABEL a clinical decision support and information system.
Biotechnology is a boom industry of the 21st century, but its deployment and governance is spread widely across government and beyond; it carries with it both political and public sensitivities, and a raft of regulations. A cross-government project, i-BIO provides a single Web portal point of access to the rich seam of relevant public and private sector knowledge, providing a consistent view of government policy and enhancing the critical mass of the UK biotechnology industry in real time.
Stephen Timms MP, Minister of State for eCommerce and Competitiveness said "I am delighted to congratulate the i-BIO project team led by Mark Philips, Project Director, on this BCS Business Achievement Award. This represents a significant cross-government project and is an excellent example of 21st century technology, joined-up government and public/private sector partnership in action that has gained recognition at the highest professional level."
Mark Philips, Project Director, i-BIO says. "Through using Autonomy, iBio has created a new kind of partnership in joined-up government - one powered by technology rather than through human interaction. In information sharing partnerships of this sort, Autonomy allows us to create an information infrastructure that allows multiple repositories of information to come together in a virtual, joined up partnership"
"We heartily congratulate the i-BIO project team on winning such a well-deserved award," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "We are honored to be part of such an innovative public facing service and to be supporting a leading-edge project in the form of the i-BIO web portal. Amongst the many objectives of joined-up government is the aggregation and accurate dissemination of vast quantities of data across literally tens of thousands of users in real time. i-BIO has rightly distinguished itself for achieving this task whilst minimizing risk and meeting key governance objectives, on time and in budget."
i-BIO is founded on Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), a technology platform which integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information.
