Analyst Firm Identifies Autonomy As A Leader In Enterprise Information Management Market

San Francisco, Calif., July 22, 2003-Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy was recognized by Giga a wholly owned subsidiary of Forrester Research Inc. The planning assumption, "Market Overview Update: Enterprise Search Must Become User-Centric Information Management," by Laura Ramos, director, Forrester Research addresses the worldwide growth in enterprise search, the trends that shape the market and the direction vendors must take to meet enterprise needs. (For full report click here: http://www.autonomy.com/analystpapers/GigaEnterpriseSearchMustBecomeUserCentric.pdf)

The report notes that Autonomy continues as one of the best alternatives for viable, advanced, widely deployed and well-recognized enterprise search solutions. Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) is meeting the needs of the enterprise by integrating unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information.

Giga research has determined that unstructured information comprises more than 80 percent of all networked information inside corporations. As such, enterprise search technologies must "shift from information retrieval to information management".

According to Ramos, organizations preparing for content centric applications and adapative workspaces should include information management in their core systems architecture. "As composite applications and business processes emerge, the ability to access, mine and discover relevant information from a wide variety of sources as they evolve still requires specialized, non-database technology that automates the redundant, labor intensive work of organizing, classifying and delivering complex unstructured information to humans and transactional systems."

The report describes the likely changes in the enterprise search market over the next several years, including the emergence of analytics and reporting as key features in solution offerings as well as new enterprise solutions that include regulatory compliance and litigation/legal discovery. Autonomy has embarked in these areas, offering visualization and clustering analysis tools that allow users new ways to view information. Aungate, a division of Autonomy, offers the world's first automated, solution for enterprise compliance and litigation support. Founded on Autonomy's IDOL, Aungate provides a technology platform that integrates with enterprise communications technologies to power real-time analysis of telephone calls, emails and instant messages.

"Autonomy provides a core infrastructure technology for information management, and we are pleased that our contributions are recognized to the enterprise information management market," said Mike Lynch, CEO and co-founder of Autonomy. "By bringing advanced pattern-matching technology, analytic tools and applications for regulatory compliance, Autonomy will continue to shape the direction of enterprise information management."
