Newest Release Delivers Superior Search Relevance and End-User Experience
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2003-07-14 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that helps organizations maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced the availability of Verity® Ultraseek release 5.1. This new version of the company's powerful, downloadable enterprise search software incorporates several new capabilities designed to reduce administrative overhead while enhancing the end-user experience.

Ease of Deployment and Administration
A highlight of Ultraseek 5.1 is Layout Manager, a versatile graphical user interface that significantly reduces the administrative effort needed to design and deploy multiple search interfaces and results pages. It is designed to give administrators the ability to easily control all aspects of look and feel as well as search options, including results display, default collections, categories, passage-based summaries and spell suggest. Most important, Layout Manager allows delegation of this activity to business-line managers to permit better match of specific departmental requirements.
Reporting Manager, another new performance and value-enhancing feature of Ultraseek 5.1, offers administrators valuable insight into users' search behaviors and changes in search patterns to permit improvement of search relevance and usability. Detailed analysis reports can be generated on a wide range of search processes to help administrators and business-line managers improve the search relevance on their Web sites, including top search queries, queries yielding no results, top requested documents and query trends.
Verity Ultraseek 5.1 also supports new file formats, including Star Office 6.0, OpenOffice 1.0 and .zip documents.
Superior Relevance and End-User Experience
Verity Ultraseek 5.1 is designed to allow users to spend less time searching for information and more time acting on it through a set of new features that optimize the way results are displayed and through intelligent analysis of content source. These new features include:
• Title Replacement - Intelligently creates accurate search result titles for documents that either have no title, or a template title not relevant to the content of the document. Ultraseek 5.1 analyzes the document path and filename to extract a title and gives administrators control over common template labels.
• Results by Location - Clusters or groups search results by site, directory, folder or other logical arrangement to enable users to easily navigate through Web sites. This feature is particularly important in larger deployments, where results across a wide range of sources are desirable.
• In-Document Term Highlighting - Automatically highlights query terms in documents in multiple-file formats to allow users to locate the term that they are looking for quickly and easily.
