The Association of Teachers and Lecturers chooses Verity for new website and intranet
EPSOM, UK - 2003-06-17 - The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), the professional organisation and trade union for teachers, lecturers and educational support staff, has chosen Verity's K2 Enterprise (K2E) technology to provide advanced search, retrieval and personalisation facilities across its new website and intranet.
The website and intranet will provide 100 ATL staff, 300 ATL officials and over 160,000 ATL members with a central resource for information and views on educational issues plus advice on pay and conditions. Members of the public and other communities of interest will also use the site.
The system will take advantage of Verity's "social networking" technology, learning what each user is looking for and providing a personalised service based on results, validity and security rules. It will recommend documents based on successful patterns of searching from previous visitors and connect people with other people to share information and experience.
Verity K2E will enable the ATL to provide varying levels of access to different visitors. At present all areas of the ATL website are accessible to all visitors, restricting the information that can be published online. With the new site, ATL members will have direct access to a vast amount of information that is currently only available in hard copy upon request.
Ann Raimondo, IT manager for the ATL, says: "We are a membership-based organisation and the ability to capture and disseminate up-to-date, relevant and qualified information to our members is vital to our success. As well as providing access to vast amounts of previously untapped data, we hope that Verity K2E will bring us closer to our members by connecting communities of interests and experts together.
"Choosing Verity allows us to meet our requirements and member needs and provides the confidence of continued success that comes from working with a global market leader. ATL is a non-profit-making organisation and extremely careful when it comes to investing its financial resources. We consider this to be a sound investment and very well made."
Simon Atkinson, managing director of Verity GB says: "The ATL is a forward-thinking organisation and will use Verity technology to offer real benefit to its members and staff.
"K2E will bring together the information from the many different data sources across the ATL to prevent duplication and make the best information available to the right people at the right time."
