Autonomy and Appian Establish Strategic Alliance to Bring Effective Information Management to Government Agencies

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and VIENNA, Va. - June 17, 2003 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, and Appian Corporation, a leading provider of real-time, enterprise web solutions, today announced a strategic alliance to provide joint technology solutions. Autonomy and Appian will work together to help state and federal government customers, as well as commercial customers, better manage information and collaborate to increase the quality and speed of decision-making.

The alliance allows Appian to recommend Autonomy technology and include it in enterprise solutions for prospective and existing customers. Appian and Autonomy will also serve as joint marketing partners and solution providers to help customers manage information. The companies have already successfully integrated their offerings for two federal government customers.

"Government agencies and corporations are constantly challenged with keeping employees, the public and other audiences abreast of critical information from numerous sources across the enterprise and Internet," said Matt Calkins, president and CEO, Appian. "With Autonomy's infrastructure technology automating that process, we are helping lead information-sharing projects and assisting the government and other customers in more effective employee collaboration."

"Appian has a proven track record of successfully deploying its portal and collaboration software in the largest and most challenging environments," said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder, Autonomy. "Autonomy is proud to form this strategic alliance. Appian has the technology and know-how to be an integral ally for Autonomy as we continue to bring efficient information management to enterprises and government agencies."

Autonomy and Appian will co-host a Webinar on Thursday, June 26, 2003 from 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM EDT. Focusing on the importance of capturing tacit knowledge within the public sector, "Leveraging and Protecting Your Intellectual Capital through KM and Collaboration," attendees will learn how Autonomy technology, combined with Appian Enterprise, the third generation of Appian's award-winning solution suite, is used to build unique and efficient government portal applications. Presenters will be John Cronin, vice president of Autonomy's Government Sector and Matt Calkins, president and CEO, Appian. More information on the Webinar can be found on www.appiancorp.com or http://www.autonomy.com/content/News/Events/Seminars/ Or, call Appian's Kathleen O'Neil at 703.442.4612 and Autonomy's Lisa Visbaras at (866-821-9955).

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
