Autonomy-Powered i-bio Wins Government Computing Innovation Award
Autonomy-powered government portal recognised for Government to Business Innovation
i-bio, the Autonomy-powered government portal for the UK Biotechnology industry, was last night awarded the prestigious Government Computing Syntegra Award for Innovation in the Government to Business sector. The award is recognition of Autonomy and i-bio's achievement in creating a website which stands at the forefront of joined up e-government.
Created to disseminate information about government legislation and advice on the biotechnology industry, i-bio is an outward-facing resource targeted at end-users in the commercial and academic biotechnology communities. Autonomy's software powers the automation of a number of information operations including the aggregation and classification of data from 14 different government departments and research councils, as well as many other publicly funded organizations.
Since their introduction in 1996 the Government Computing Syntegra Awards for Innovation, organised by Government Computing magazine, have become recognised as one of the prime accolades for those working on the electronic delivery of public services.
Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy said: "This award is validation of the work that i-bio has done in creating a uniquely powerful information tool for the biotechnology industry. By deploying Autonomy to power the aggregation, classification and management of information on the website, i-bio represents a huge step forward in electronic joined up government and we congratulate them on their achievement."
Mark Phillips, Head of the i-bio portal project, said: "We are delighted to have received this recognition from the Government Computing Syntegra Awards for Innovation. By working closely with Autonomy we have created a portal project that is truly at the leading edge of government interface with business and this award is recognition of this achievement."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
