KQED Public Broadcasting Makes its Web Property More Vibrant, Easier to Use with Verity Technology
Verity K2 Catalog Software Lets Millions of Viewers and Listeners Quickly and Accurately Find Information, Make Membership Pledges Online at New and Improved KQED.org
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2003-06-03 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that helps organizations maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, today announced KQED Public Broadcasting has deployed Verity® K2 Catalog (K2C) software as part of a strategic initiative to make its Web site, KQED.org, a more effective online presence. A multimedia organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, KQED operates the nation's most-watched public television station in prime time and the most-listened-to public radio station, among other properties.
KQED, a communications pioneer whose Web site launch in 1994 was one of the earliest by a public broadcaster, recently overhauled its entire Internet infrastructure. The purpose of this effort was to better integrate the content from its television and radio outlets with its Web site, while making its online presence a more vital resource for its community of listeners, viewers and readers.
"Verity K2 Catalog has helped make our site a highly interactive online hub for KQED's millions of visitors from around the globe," said Colleen Wilson, KQED Interactive's director. "The Verity software eliminated the confusion and frustration caused by our prior home-grown search solution. Verity K2C provides a highly effective search capability that allows our site visitors to find a wide range of KQED's content, from detailed information on a particular TV program to an audio archive file from one of our locally produced programs. Retrieval is consistently quick and accurate."
"KQED is a nonprofit organization that depends on fundraising and membership to ensure its varied program offerings. Our aim is to serve the KQED community and encourage their continued involvement and support. Verity K2C enhances our ability to achieve this goal."
KQED selected Verity K2C after extensive evaluations of a number of search solutions. The organization also evaluated several similar sites for best practice technology. In nearly every case, Wilson and her team found the sites worth emulating used Verity technology. These findings combined with the superior versatility and scalability of the Verity solution made it the obvious choice.
Among the Verity K2C capabilities appealing to KQED.org is the ability to provide personalized content to KQED members - an area into which KQED intends to expand. In addition, the re-launched KQED.org permits visitors to access and search content on special events and comprehensive schedule archives for television and radio to further enhance the KQED online experience.
"KQED is an innovator in television and radio that has established itself as a leader in online communications with the overhaul of its Web site," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, Verity's president and CEO. "Verity is delighted that KQED is using K2 Catalog software for content discovery, organization and recommendation on KQED.org and to enhance its online fundraising and e-commerce activities."
Traffic on KQED.org averages one million page views per month, with as many as 200,000 unique visitors monthly. Since the new site was launched late last year, traffic levels have increased steadily.
