Autonomy Wins National Nuclear Security Administration Contract
Autonomy Selected As Core Technology for Administrations' Information Analysis and Collaboration Programs
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - May 12, 2003--Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTND; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it will provide the National Nuclear Security Administration with the core infrastructure technology for information collection, analysis, routing and retrieval. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) will use Autonomy technology to more efficiently analyze, assess, and share information to enhance the national security missions of the NNSA.
The mission of the NNSA is to enhance United States national security through the military application of nuclear energy while maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of nuclear weapons and propulsion plants within U.S. military programs and promoting international nuclear safety and non-proliferation.
"To ensure continuity of America's nuclear weapons supply chain, it is critical that the NNSA personnel be given the tools to effectively manage the vast amounts of information they need to fulfill their mission," said Marc Hollander, CIO, NNSA. "Autonomy's information infrastructure will help us use the intelligence and expertise within the administration to better serve the public."
Using Autonomy's concept-based technology, NNSA employees will be able to access information, such as policies throughout the federal government, and public information related to potential national security risks involving weapons of mass destruction or domestic nuclear facilities, through natural language queries.
Because Autonomy's technology analyzes and understands the concepts within text, video and audio content rather than relying on keywords, it is able to identify patterns or clusters of words that, when combined together, may signal code for questionable activities. This powerful technology will foster better decision-making based on data culled from disparate, qualified sources. In addition, employees will be able to identify experts knowledgeable about specific topics such as weapons technology, geography, and political history within different NNSA communities to enable sharing of expertise and insights.
"Autonomy has a strong history of helping government agencies within the United States and United Kingdom to implement advanced knowledge sharing for their employees to best serve the public," said Mike Lynch, co-founder and CEO, Autonomy. "We are proud that our information infrastructure will add to the safety and security of the National Nuclear Safety Administration's programs and contribute to the expertise of their staff."
Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
