MEDIA ADVISORY: Verity's Vice President and Chief Technology Officer to Speak at the Eighth Annual Search Engine Meeting
SUNNYVALE, Calif - 2003-04-07 - Verity Inc., (NASDAQ: VRTY), Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan, vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) of Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise software that helps organizations maximize the return on their intellectual capital investment, will be presenting at Infonortic's Eighth Annual Search Engine Meeting - "The Synergy between Search, Systems and Information" - on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Boston.
WHAT:
• Verity's Presentation at the Eighth Annual Search Engine Meeting -
"From Semi-Structured Search to Content Analytic Applications"
The Eighth Annual Search Engine Meeting aims to bring together commercial search engine developers, academics and corporate professionals to learn from each other. Speakers will discuss interesting topics including automatic classification, enterprise searching and applications, convergence of content and data technology, and image and video searching.
Verity's presentation - "From Semi-Structured Search to Content Analytic Applications" - will focus on the new generation of content analytic applications and the speaker's point of view that the information driving these applications will be the unstructured and semi-structured information in corporations. Without such applications, the vast majority of corporate information that is unstructured will not realize its true potential, while the tiny fraction of the information in relational databases will continue to be regarded as the most valuable. The technical underpinnings for this transformation demand significantly more than the current state of search technology. Two categories will be discussed including the techniques for producing structure and meta-data from documents such as classification, concept extraction (using unsupervised machine learning) and information extraction, as well as techniques for consuming such structure/meta-data such as meta-data integrated text analysis, semi-structured information retrieval and visualization.
