Analyst Research Firm Recognizes Autonomy As Becoming De Facto Content Processing Engine
Butler Group Praises Autonomy's Innovative Infrastructure Technology
Cambridge, England -February 25, 2003- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the company was singled out by Butler Group for its innovative technology that reduces the cost of information processing, enhances business operations and increases collaboration. The paper titled "Automated Management of Unstructured Content," notes that "Autonomy is well on the way to becoming the de facto content processing engine in many applications." The full text of the article is available here.
Founded in 1990, the Butler Group is the premier European provider of Information Technology research, analysis, and advice. According to Butler Group president and founder, Martin Butler, as data and content volume continue to double every year, it becomes imperative to find technologies that can automatically convert data into information, and that is precisely what Autonomy does. "Autonomy has taken a significant step forward in the way we use information technology," said Butler. "Information costs are the largest fraction of overheads in many organizations and Autonomy reduces these costs, directly affecting organizations' bottom line."
Autonomy was the first major technology designed to handle unstructured information. Unlike other technologies that require structuring information with tags or other manual constructs and rely on additional effort to maintain content metadata, Autonomy automates the process of categorizing, linking and delivery information. Because Autonomy eliminates the need to structure information, it reduces the cost of processing information and delivers information to users faster.
The growth of unstructured confirmation is well suited to Autonomy's unique capabilities. "Regardless of industry, organizations today face the challenge of acquiring, processing and distributing information," said Autonomy co-founder and CEO Dr. Michael Lynch. "More than 600 global companies and government agencies use our software to reduce the costs involved with these processes and to enhance their business efficiencies. We are proud to have their business and Butler Group's recognition."
Autonomy's technology integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple source locations. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. The ability of Autonomy's software to analyze text (regardless of language) and voice, identify and rank the main concepts and then deliver customized information to the user, enables organizations to intelligently control its data resources. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications.
