Virage Wins Digital Media Technology Of The Year Award From Frost & Sullivan
SAN MATEO, Calif. - January 21, 2003 - Virage, Inc. [NASDAQ: VRGE], a leading provider of video and rich media communication software, today announced that Virage has won the Frost & Sullivan Digital Media Technology of the Year award. Winners for the awards were announced during a ceremony on January 15th.
"We are delighted to have been recognized as a technology leader," said Paul G. Lego, chairman and CEO of Virage. "The Digital Media Technology of the Year award from Frost & Sullivan is a great validation of the work we've done with our products. We thank Frost & Sullivan for this recognition."
The award winner was the Virage VideoLogger® product, the company's flagship technology and part of the Virage SmartEncode™ family of products for real-time encoding and indexing. Virage has hundreds of SmartEncode customer installations.
In addition to the SmartEncode product family, Virage also offers the Virage Solution Server™ (VSS), an Oracle-based rich media content management system, as well as a variety of turnkey software applications. These applications include VS Webcasting™ for planning and producing interactive, live, and on-demand webcasts for speeches, seminars, training and online learning, VS Production™ for streamlining the video production process from acquisition to distribution, and VS Publishing™ for organizing, managing, customizing, and publishing video and other rich media assets on the Internet. The company has more than 350 customers and more than 125 partners worldwide. For a list of Virage customers, please visit www.virage.com/customers.
The Frost & Sullivan analyst team tracked all emerging technologies and ongoing research and development projects within the industry. The process included interviews with all the market participants and extensive secondary and technology research. The company chosen to receive the Digital Media Technology of the Year award received the number one industry ranking for that category. Companies and their products must also have excelled in one of more of the following criteria: significance of the technology in the industry, number of competitors having similar industry technology, the technology refinement process meeting changing end-user needs, value-added technology and services to the customers, adoption rate by each of the industry participants, new product innovation, and time-to-market.
