Analyst Research Finds Autonomy The Leader In Pattern Matching Technology

Pattern Recognition and Unstructured Data Management Technology Are at the Core of Evolving Adaptive Workplace Technology

San Francisco, Calif., January 14, 2003- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy has been recognized by Giga Information Group as the leading pattern-recognition technology in the market and a crucial component of future adaptive workplace solutions in a recent report. The report, "Planning Assumption, Adaptive Workplaces: Preparing for the Future of Work," by Daniel Rasmus, vice president and research leader, Giga Group, explores the emerging market and supporting technologies of the adaptive workplace. (For full report click here.)

According to this report, pattern recognition technologies will replace explicit personalization and rules-based tools in an emerging area, adaptive workspaces. This is because pattern recognition technologies allow applications to create complex associations between content, tools and people. These technologies enable information to be delivered in context to what employees are working on, creating an adaptive environment.

The report notes that Autonomy has demonstrated strong thought leadership within the area of adaptive workspace and that it is the leader in pattern-recognition technology. Autonomy delivers information in context to employees as they work. By utilizing advanced pattern recognition technology to deliver information in real-time, Autonomy provides a flexible, adaptive tool that enhances employee's awareness of information and events and facilitates collaboration.

In addition, the report notes that tools like the IDOL Server from Autonomy that discover and learn about people, systems, Web destinations and content will become the primary enablers for the proactive interfaces that will typify adaptive workspaces. A key function of adaptive workspaces is recognizing patterns of behavior that can be mined to create repeatable processes that enhance an individual's work by providing them greater awareness of information, events, and collaboration within the community. Since human content and interaction is largely unstructured, this will place new value and emphasis on the management of unstructured content.

"Pattern recognition, at the heart of Autonomy's technology, offers the only scaleable solution to mining the multitude of sources, tools and people that adaptive workplace technology seeks to connect," said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy. "More importantly, Autonomy's intelligent data operating layer (IDOL) provides context to increase the accuracy and relevance of the information being delivered."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of their content. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to process text, voice and video and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, summarizes, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's technology also drives collaboration across the enterprise and enables organizations to effectively leverage expertise. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
