Cardiff TELEform Selected by Leading Norwegian Hospital to Increase Data Accuracy and Improve Treatment and Service

Akershus Universitetssykehus to use Cardiff's premier information capture solution to process more than 150,000 medical forms per year

Brentford, England - 2002-12-03 - Cardiff Software Ltd., a leading global provider of business process-automation solutions, today announced that Akershus Universitetssykehus, a leading Norwegian university hospital, has selected Cardiff TELEform® to automate the collection of data from more than 150,000 haematology and urine sample forms per year. The solution was implemented by Cardiff reseller, Canon Systems, a leading Norwegian system integrator specializing in process automation.

Akershus Universitetssykehus will use TELEform to automatically capture, verify and transfer data from scanned forms directly into the hospital's laboratory database system. Prior to implementing TELEform, hospital staff were tasked with manually entering information from the approximately 450 forms received each day. Now, Akershus Universitetssykehus can benefit fromTELEform's superior character recognition and data validation capabilities to significantly reduce the risk of data error while speeding up the process of capturing information.

By automatically interpreting handwriting, machine print, barcodes, circle responses, tick boxes and the presence of signatures, TELEform virtually eliminates the errors that commonly occur with manual data entry. In addition, TELEform further increases data accuracy by verifying scanned data .against medical databases stored in seven different geographically dispersed computer systems. The ability to capture data more quickly and accurately will enable the hospital to provide enhanced patient service and treatment.

Sissel Evenr¯d, project manager at the hospital, comments: "We selected Cardiff TELEform because this system is proven to eliminate errors associated with the manual data entry of medical forms, and it is very important for us to collect true and accurate data, whether for medical treatment or forensic police work. By eliminating the risk of data error, we can better determine the correct treatment for our patients and provide better results to forensic research teams. Secondly, we are able to raise our level of service by shortening the amount of time patients have to wait for their medical test results."

About Akershus Universitetssykehus

Akershus Universitetssykehus HF employs 4,200 people, servicing a local population of around 330,000 people. Their three core activities are: patient service, medical research and education. The hospital also undertakes responsibility to process medical tests for two other Norwegian hospitals: Stensby Hospital and Ski Hospital. Akershus Universitetssykehus yearly undertakes over two million medical tests.
