IT Research Firm Finds Autonomy Fastest Growing Company In Information Access Software Market

Company Building on #1 Position

Year-On-Year Market Share Growth Seen Against Competitor Decline

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - November 29, 2002 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it is continuing to grow its global market share in the information access software category, and has further strengthened its #1 position as the fastest growing company in this sector over the past four years, according to a just-released report from Gartner Dataquest entitled "Collaboration Software and Knowledge Management Tools Market Statistics, 2002".

The annual accounting of software license revenue conducted by Dataquest Inc., a unit of Gartner Inc., a leading industry research firm, shows Autonomy has increased from 6.6% of the total market in 1997, to more than 21.4% in 2001, while its next nearest competitor has dramatically decreased market share by around 50% over the same period. During that time, Autonomy exhibited a dramatic growth rate in contrast to double-digit negative share growth shown by all other companies offering information access software.

According to Burke Oppenheimer, a research analyst with Gartner Dataquest, and author of the report, "Information location and retrieval has become a high profile issue in today's knowledge workplace. This software is crucial to help improve the productivity of and save time for knowledge workers, and it is not difficult to make a solid business case to justify the purchase of these applications".

"We believe that Autonomy's market-leading performance, as evidenced by the Gartner Dataquest report, is the result of Autonomy developing and delivering information access software that performs beyond customers' expectations, and provides unparalleled ROI," said Mike Lynch, Founder and CEO, Autonomy. "With this growth performance we look forward to the release of the 2002 figures which we expect to show Autonomy as the world leader in new software licenses for advanced information access".
