Autonomy Announces New OEM Relationship With BEA Systems
BEA WebLogic Portal to Offer Improved Retrieval and Data Management Functionality with Autonomy Technology
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - November 18, 2002 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced a new strategic OEM relationship with BEA Systems (Nasdaq: BEAS), the world's leading application infrastructure software company.
Since 2001, BEA Systems has included Autonomy's technology with its BEA WebLogic Portal to provide their customers and partners with advanced information aggregation, retrieval and knowledge management capabilities. Under the new OEM agreement, BEA will embed Autonomy's technology into its WebLogic Portal. In addition, the agreement allows BEA to expand the reach of information retrieval to external sources including relational databases and the Web.
BEA's WebLogic Portal Framework provides customers with the tools to develop, deploy and manage secure, scalable intranet and extranet portals. Together BEA and Autonomy provide customers with a solution to build portals with advanced personalization, collaboration and retrieval features. Autonomy technology is used within BEA WebLogic Portal 7.0 to automate the aggregation, analysis and retrieval of both structured and unstructured information from multiple sources including internal applications, legacy systems and the Web.
"The right information at the right time is critical for success in business - with its experience and expertise in application infrastructure software, BEA has helped thousands of companies simplify the development, delivery and management of enterprise portals", said Mike Lynch, co-founder and CEO, Autonomy. "Autonomy's partnership with BEA will help leverage knowledge across the enterprise making the end-users in companies more efficient and productive."
Autonomy's IDOL integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. Autonomy gives enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text (regardless of language) and voice and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's breakthrough technology not only provides all the benefits of automated information integration and delivery, but it now taps into antiquated legacy systems that may contain enterprise critical content that can be migrated to the advanced and robust Autonomy infrastructure.
