Sapient And Autonomy Partner To Help Clients Reduce Business Costs Through Effective Information Management

CAMBRIDGE, UK. and LONDON - October 28, 2002 - Sapient (NASDAQ: SAPE), a leading business and technology consultancy, today announced it has formed an alliance with Autonomy (NASDAQ: AUTN; LSE: AU.; NASDAQ Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure technology for the enterprise. This alliance will draw on the complementary expertise of both companies to help clients realize greater business value and reduce costs through more effective and intelligent information management and delivery.

As organizations have become increasingly dependent on the successful management of mountains of information generated from unstructured sources such as e-mails, meetings and miscellaneous documents, the disparate forms, formats, languages, subjects and quantities in which the information is available can create significant barriers to achieving business efficiencies and goals. In particular, the traditionally manual tasks associated with managing and processing such information are often time consuming, inconsistent and inaccurate.

Sapient and Autonomy are addressing these challenges through the implementation of advanced technology solutions for clients that automate the manual processes of aggregation, categorization, hyperlinking, summarization, retrieval and delivery of unstructured information. The two companies have delivered successful solutions for Centradia and Schroders, among others.

Colin Windsor, managing director of Sapient in the UK, said, "Every day, a company's employees exchange important information during meetings and telephone conversations. They use and create Web pages, e-mails, text documents, images and video. The exchanged information is saved in many different formats that, in the long term, slow efficiency and hinder the achievement of business objectives. With Autonomy's infrastructure technology, we can implement solutions that allow our clients to capture, use and derive real business benefits from disparate data sources, including their own employees' store of knowledge and experience."

A July 26, 2002 Giga Information Group report, entitled "From Data Processing to Information Management: The Need for Intelligent Infrastructure," highlights the need for companies to implement intelligent infrastructure software such as Autonomy's. Giga Information Group Vice President Daniel W. Rasmus comments in this report that "new computing environments that learn from the physical and information environments, adapt to the needs of their owners and provide content in context will help move the computing industry to its next level of penetration."

Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy, commented, "We are delighted to have formed this strategic partnership with Sapient. As a global organization with a stellar reputation for delivering measurable business results, Sapient is an ideal partner for Autonomy. Autonomy and Sapient are committed to working together to help clients leverage their intellectual assets and realize the highest return on their technology investments."
