Butler Group Praises Autonomy As The Pioneer In Enterprise Information Technology

Cambridge, England - October 10, 2002 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the company was praised by Butler Group for its ability to integrate and understand unstructured information in all forms. The paper titled "Autonomy - Not a Technology Company," refers to Autonomy as the "company you should be talking to... if your organisation wants to get more of a handle on the value of information." The full text of the article is available here.

The paper, by President & Founder Martin Butler, evaluates the need for technologies that enhance existing IT investments and concludes that the understanding and management of information within the enterprise is a critical factor for business success. Autonomy, which delivers intelligent and proactive tools enabling users to automate the aggregation, classification and delivery of vast amounts of information from multiple sources, provides companies with the means to leverage existing knowledge across the enterprise. The research highlights Autonomy's innovative technology describing it as representing "a new level of sophistication," and "well beyond the capability of competing products," in providing intelligent infrastructure technology and analysis. Butler predicts that Autonomy will thrive in the coming years, despite current market conditions, because its technology enables organisations to extract value from the huge investment in production applications such as ERP and CRM. Founded in 1990, the Butler Group is the premier European provider of Information Technology research, analysis, and advice.

"Recognition by the Butler Group for our technology further validates Autonomy's leadership position in advanced information management and retrieval solutions," said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy. "Autonomy has always been focused on taking information management to the most sophisticated level possible, without burden to the user. The Butler research validates this achievement and demonstrates how Autonomy can unlock the value in enterprise information."

Through an understanding of the content, Autonomy's technology integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple source locations. Autonomy grants enterprises the flexibility to use advanced information retrieval or legacy-based approaches. The ability of Autonomy's software to analyze text (regardless of language) and voice, identify and rank the main concepts and then deliver customized information to the user, enables organizations to intelligently control its data resources. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications.
