Queen Alexandra Hospital Uses Cardiff TELEform® to Reduce Time and Expense Associated With Manual Data Entry of Forms

Rheumatology department uses data capture technology to transfer information from paper forms into real-time patient database, reducing data entry costs and improving productivity and outpatient research

Brentford, England - 2002-10-07 - Cardiff Software Ltd., a leading global provider of business process-automation solutions, today announced that Queen Alexandra Hospital's rheumatology department is using Cardiff TELEform® to automate the collection and processing of outpatient data from paper forms into a unified database. The TELEform solution processes and verifies information from multiple paper and digital sources, resulting in improved productivity, lower data entry costs and enhancements in the quality of patient information and research capabilities. The Cardiff solution was implemented through Kenda Electronic Systems Ltd., a leading Cardiff reseller.

Queen Alexandra Hospital is a teaching hospital in Portsmouth that is part of one of England's largest National Health Service (NHS) Trusts. By deploying TELEform, the rheumatology department has been able to automate its time-intensive, yearly patient survey. The data-entry intensive task formerly took several weeks to complete, but using TELEform's data capture technology the entire process has been reduced to a couple of days.

The department is also using TELEform to capture data on questionnaires that relate to outpatient activity, workload and clinical research. These surveys and forms are scanned, verified and processed by TELEform, which automatically transfers the data on the form directly into the department's database or Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet, depending on the application.

"We looked at a number of programs, including several specifically designed for use in our field, but only Cardiff offered the flexibility we needed across applications," said Ms Angela Wood, rheumatology audit coordinator at Queen Alexandra Hospital. "We are extremely pleased with the time and money that we have saved in executing these various projects, including the yearly snapshot survey. More important, the TELEform solution has allowed us to implement an ongoing database of outpatient activity."

Kenda's Ken Fletcher comments: "Working with Queen Alexandra Hospital has enabled us to showcase Cardiff TELEform in the clinical hospital setting. The implementation demonstrates how a service institution can improve productivity as well as patient care by automating its paper-based processes."
