Verity K2 Enterprise 4.5 the Focus of a Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2002 Vendor Solution Presentation

Newly Released Verity Software Manages Organizational Data Growth

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - 2002-10-01 - Verity Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software powering corporate intranets and e-commerce sites as well as e-business applications, today announced that Gary Szukalski, director of industry marketing, will deliver a vendor solution presentation on Verity® K2 Enterprise (K2E) 4.5 at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2002 in Orlando, Florida. Szukalski will present "Verity K2 Enterprise: Discover, Organize and Connect With Social Networks" on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m.

With over 18 years of experience in the computer industry, Szukalski is responsible for Verity's outbound marketing campaigns, sales support and vertical industry positioning. Prior to joining Verity, he was a systems programmer for EDS and General Electric Information Services Company (GEISCO). Szukalski also served as vice president of North American Sales Operations at FileTek Inc.

Szukalski will explain how Verity K2E 4.5, the recently released version of Verity's K2 Enterprise software, fully integrates the three tiers of the knowledge management infrastructure of Discover (search), Organize (intelligent classification) and Connect (personalization). Verity K2E 4.5's integrated features let users organize and find documents in hundreds of different file formats throughout an organization and link to the experts behind that data. The first tier (Discover) consists of advanced search tools including federated search, which brings back results from many sources to a single query; parametric search, which finds single or groups of documents with specific attributes; and relational taxonomies, which enable simultaneous search of two or more taxonomies for powerful discovery capabilities.

With the second tier (Organize), Verity manages the exponential growth of unstructured data within an enterprise by organizing taxonomies of information with extreme accuracy. Verity K2E 4.5 provides customers with a flexible and accurate classification solution that combines automation with domain expertise.

In addition, with the release of K2E 4.5, Verity introduced The LexisNexis™ Content Organizer, giving customers the option of using LexisNexis' pre-built taxonomies to automatically classify enterprise information. The LexisNexis™ Content Organizer is a product exclusive to companies that use K2E and allows Verity customers to combine their own enterprise-specific rules to organize their information the way they do businesses.

Verity K2E 4.5's third tier (Connect) leverages the information created when people search, browse and access documents. The Verity Recommendation Engine recognizes the social networks that are dynamically formed in online environments and uses them to enhance the flow of knowledge throughout an enterprise. For example, based on the document that a user is viewing or the user's previous queries, K2E identifies and locates experts on the document's subject matter.
