Delphi Group Research Shows Autonomy Capturing Industry-Leading Mindshare in Automated Classification Technology

Analyst Research Provides Framework to Evaluate Business Value of Information Retrieval

CAMBRIDGE, England, Sept. 27 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy technology has been recognized in recent research, "Perspectives on Information Retrieval," from Delphi Group, a leading provider of business advisory services that illuminate the value proposition of technology in digital business practice.

Delphi Group polled 300 enterprise managers on implementation practice for information retrieval. The research identifies more than 70 suppliers that provide software for information retrieval and notes that despite the large number of information retrieval suppliers, only two have emerged as market leaders. The research cited enterprise managers as identifying Autonomy as the industry leader in developing and delivering advanced taxonomy and classification technology. The mindshare results were collected through a blind poll in which enterprise managers were required to type in the correct name of the vendor they viewed as providing industry leadership in a particular information retrieval segment. Autonomy received 38% more votes for classification technology leadership than the closest alternative supplier.

The report provides an examination of the key segments of information retrieval software: basic search, advanced search, taxonomy/classification, question and answering/expertise management and ontologies/topic maps. It also discusses the penetration of these technologies as enterprises recognize the contribution information retrieval makes in leveraging information assets throughout the organization.

Hadley Reynolds, Research Director, Delphi Group, stated, "Enterprises are now recognizing the contribution automated classification technologies can make in helping leverage information assets for increased commerce and a smarter workplace. Autonomy has pioneered the rapid growth areas of advanced search and classification, and the research results indicate that the company has had a major impact on both a performance and a brand recognition basis."

"Delphi's research on the key components of information retrieval further validates Autonomy's leadership in advanced information management solutions," said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy. "Autonomy gives businesses an intelligent infrastructure-level technology to integrate information, and this research shows that enterprises understand the vital business need of managing increasing amounts of unstructured information."

Autonomy's IDOL integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information.

Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
