KPMG to Use New Generation of Verity Knowledge Management Technologies
Sunnyvale, Calif. - 2002-08-20 - KPMG LLP (UK), a professional services firm in Great Britain, has selected the latest version of advanced search and content organization software from Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY) to support its knowledge management function on its intranet. The recently introduced Verity K2 Enterprise 4.5 (K2E) software will enable KPMG employees to quickly find and organize the information they need across multiple data sources.
"We used Verity's original search software when we first built our intranet seven years ago," explained Sam Nevin, head of Knowledge Management, KPMG. "Since then we've worked very closely with Verity to explore how we can exploit the people-to-people connections which are so important within our organization."
The latest project is a joint venture between KPMG's 40-strong knowledge management group, which is focused on business communications, and the company's information and communication technologies (ICT) group. "Verity K2E will allow us to connect to far more information sources," Nevin said. "There's a huge amount of information held in legacy systems and in external sources as well. By understanding how our employees work, we can gradually offer them access to more and more sources of content without overwhelming them."
"One of the principal features of Verity K2E is its ability to access and organize structured and unstructured content," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. "KPMG is bringing together disparate internal and external sources into one single search and view point - making life much simpler and more productive for the user."
KPMG LLP (UK), the UK member of KPMG International, plans to build on this in the future by using Verity K2E 4.5's Recommendation Engine which recognizes the social networks that exist within a corporate online environment and automatically suggests documents and identifies the experts who have used them.
"This is a project that has top-level support here at KPMG", Nevin commented. "We're here to make it easier for our people to do their jobs, so that they can offer better services to clients. Verity is going to play a big part in that process."
About Verity K2 Enterprise

Verity is able to combine these crucial capabilities because of the three-tier architecture of its K2 technology platform, used by more than 1,500 companies worldwide. The K2 platform lets K2E users discover, organize and connect with their enterprises' greatest information assets - an array of documents and the experts behind them, who know and understand those businesses. It also offers one of the most sophisticated yet easy to manage administrative infrastructures to better cope with enterprise complexity
