Ovum Research Recognizes Autonomy As A Market Leader In Enterprise Information Architecture

San Francisco, Calif.-August 19, 2002- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy technology has been recognized in recent research, "The Next-generation Search Market in 2002," from Ovum, the analyst and consulting company, for its industry-leading ability to integrate and understand unstructured information in all forms. An extract from the research is available at Next Generation Search Market in 2002.pdf.

The research is an examination of the technologies that go beyond traditional search to provide more intelligent and proactive tools that allow users to take control of vasts amounts of information. The study evaluates the demand for those technologies and how market leaders are addressing the challenges of enterprise information architecture. Despite recent market conditions and the economic downturn, Ovum predicts that enterprises will spend $1 billion by 2006 on next-generation technologies such as those from Autonomy.

The research highlights Autonomy's leadership in providing intelligent infrastructure technology and the analysis and management of large-scale, unstructured data sets. Eric Woods, Research Director, Ovum described Autonomy's launch of IDOL (intelligent data operating layer) in 2001 as a "key step in putting its technology at the center of enterprise information architecture - integrating access to unstructured information of all forms (documents, applications, images, voice and people)."

"Ovum's research on these forward-thinking technologies further validates Autonomy's leadership in next-generation data management and retrieval solutions" said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy. "Autonomy gives businesses an intelligent infrastructure-level technology to integrate information, and this research shows that enterprises understand the vital business need of managing increasing amounts of unstructured information."

Autonomy's IDOL integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
