Recent Research Highlights Autonomy's Infrastructure Software For Providing Personalized Information

Report Encourages Enterprises to Consider Technologies that Form a More Complete Understanding of Information

San Francisco, Calif.-June 28, 2002- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Autonomy technology has been recognized in recent research entitled: Finding Value in Context by Giga Information Group, for its ability to find context in unstructured information, allowing for more accurate delivery of information and significant return on investment. The report is available at http://www.autonomy.com/whitepapers/Finding_value_in_context.pdf.

The research examined how to use context to bring value to information systems and different methods of integrating content with applications. The report sought the views of more than 200 companies, most of which reported significant monetary and productivity benefits from the use of this type of technology.

The research points out that businesses often don't consider context in their information infrastructure investments, but those that do, particularly those that use products that have a statistical model for categorizing and finding context within information stores, will be able to provide a more efficient approach to customers and business partners by being able to respond more rapidly to changes in the information environment and, therefore, delivering a faster, more comprehensive, and more useful solution.

"This report recognizes the importance of managing unstructured data contextually at the operating system level, in order to achieve true enterprise efficiency," said Richard Gaunt, chief technology officer and co-founder of Autonomy. "Autonomy's intelligent data operating layer (IDOL) provides that robust infrastructure. Our software integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information across the enterprise rapidly and cost-effectively."

Autonomy's IDOL integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
