Pacificorp Selects Autonomy To Power Intranet Portal
Energy Company to Use Infrastructure Technology to Streamline Content Delivery and Accessibility for Employees Throughout the West
San Francisco, Calif. - June 11, 2002- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced its technology has been selected by PacifiCorp, one of the Western United States' largest electric utilities, to power its corporate Intranet. Using Autonomy Server™, PacifiCorp employees will benefit from the automatic aggregation, categorization, linking, retrieval and delivery of documents pertinent to their jobs. PacifiCorp joins other leading energy and utility companies such as SPE, Iberdrola and IEEE in the implementation of Autonomy's automated infrastructure to deliver information across their enterprises.
With thousands of documents located throughout its network, PacifiCorp needed a comprehensive solution that would enable its 6,600 employees to access corporate information such as customer service and human resource updates, as well as industry-specific information such as news, research and field data, all from a single location. In addition to aggregating information in a central location, PacifiCorp wanted to save its employees the labor-intensive and costly process of manually searching for these documents. With Autonomy's technology in place, employees are able to quickly locate specific information from both external and internal sources. Relevant documents are automatically delivered via the portal with updated automated hyperlinks.
"With fluctuations in the utility industry a constant, staying current on critical news, research and data helps us better serve our customers," said Karlin Bohnert, PacifiCorp vice president and CTO. "After evaluating several potential vendors, PacifiCorp chose Autonomy's technology for its easy and quick implementation, reliability and most importantly, because it will grow with our organization's evolving needs."
"PacifiCorp employees require ready access to information necessary for their jobs-they must respond quickly and be armed with the most up-to-date information," said Mike Lynch, Autonomy CEO and co-founder. "Autonomy's automatic delivery, aggregation and document summary abilities are just what PacifiCorp needs to save employees valuable time and the company money."
Autonomy's unique intelligent data operating layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
