Autonomy Provides Business With One-Click Access To Global Developments

DTI International Technology Service extends globalwatchonline.com deal

Cambridge, UK - MAY 16 2002 Autonomy Corporation (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU.; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced a deal with The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to deploy Autonomy's revolutionary visualization technology in the DTI's globalwatchonline.com project.

Autonomy will automate the monitoring of user demand for information in real-time and the update of site content. This will enable the DTI's International Technology Service to make considerable savings in time, effort and human resource.

Globalwatchonline.com is a service for small and medium enterprises seeking to exploit international technology opportunities, based on information supplied by British Embassies across the world. The DTI already uses Autonomy to automatically profile globalwatchonline.com users' interests and then deliver relevant information to them from over 600 internal and external sources.

By automatically analyzing and understanding the concepts behind the information on the site, and tracking the demand for those concepts, Autonomy will enable the DTI to identify subject areas of most interest to its users in real-time. This will enable the DTI to provide extra resources and further information on the site in these 'hot' areas. Editorial content of the site will thus become user driven, allowing the provision of richer, more relevant and targeted information - without the attendant manual editorial costs.

In addition to the application of Autonomy's visualization technology, the DTI has also extended its initial deal with Autonomy, made in May 2001, to include multilingual content. Autonomy automates the processing and delivery of information in any language, thus providing further editorial savings. The DTI have also added Autonomy's document management modules in order to enable the instantaneous aggregation of new information.

Richard Gaunt, Autonomy co-founder and CTO, commented: "Globalwatchonline.com was a revolution in the way the DTI delivered information to British businesses looking for commercial opportunities abroad. With their initial installation of Autonomy's technology, they added value to the service by automating the delivery of the right information to the right people. With these latest additions, they are enabling their editorial staff to tailor this information instantaneously to ensure that they are providing exactly what users are looking for."

"We are increasingly seeing this sort of extension to our customer licences, as clients who have worked with Autonomy for a time realize the massive potential for the expansion of its capabilities," said Gaunt.

Christine Mitchell, the DTI's Programme Manager for globalwatchonline.com, commented: "Globalwatchonline.com is a vital tool for - businesses looking to operate globally from this country. This latest Autonomy licence extension empowers our editorial operation to a degree that was unimaginable a year ago. Autonomy is providing business with a 'one-click access' to information on global developments in their precise areas of business interest. It places the DTI at the forefront of e-government and e-commerce."

Autonomy's unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorises, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
