Verity Offers New Knowledge Management Support Technology For Enterprise Application Vendors
Verity K2 Developer Allows Business Software Makers to Easily Add Powerful Search, Content Organization and Personalization Capabilities To Applications Leading Software Companies Have Already Chosen New Verity Product
SUNNYVALE, CA - 2002-04-29 - In its latest move to allow more people to benefit from its well-regarded K2 technology platform, Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers corporate portals and e-commerce sites as well as e-business applications, today announced the availability of a new version of K2 Developer, a product specifically designed to be incorporated into large business software applications.
Verity K2 Developer, or K2D, is the company's newest offering for the OEM market. It gives enterprise software developers the ability to add any of Verity's three tiers of knowledge management infrastructure — search, content categorization and social networks — easily and seamlessly to their applications. Through features such as personalization, recommendation and expertise location, Verity's social networks technology leverages an enterprise's intellectual capital - its people and its documented knowledge.
"Search has become a required feature of almost all software products. Search, however, is not enough," says Simon Hayward, research director at Gartner Group. "More advanced information access features such as categorization and expertise location are becoming key differentiators. Most application vendors will choose to partner to obtain these capabilities rather than build their own."
Gartner Group and other industry research firms, including the Delphi Group, the META Group and Ovum, have cited the strength and capabilities of Verity's K2 platform, the foundation of K2D.
Choice of Leading Software Vendors
"K2D is the best evidence yet as to why so many of the world's leading software vendors have OEM relationships with Verity," said Michael D. Mooney, Verity's vice president of North American Sales. "It's a powerful, modular package that is easy for developers to work with to make their applications even more attractive to customers."
Some of the leading software vendors that have already chosen Verity K2D include Conjoin, eMotion, FileNet, Haht Commerce, Kana, Macromedia, OTG Software, TIBCO Software, and Virage.
According to Verity, K2D is fully compatible with standard Web development languages, including Java, COM, and C/C++. In addition, it offers full support for inclusion within an enterprise software vendor's .NET or J2EE applications, and includes comprehensive management APIs. All of this, the company noted, helps to ensure rapid integration.
"Along with the capabilities of K2D comes a commitment from Verity to work co-operatively with enterprise software vendors on business development, marketing and sales initiatives," Mooney said. "We want to offer those who need to market and sell enterprise applications the kind of flexibility that developers can enjoy with the modular Verity K2D."
