Verity Helping pressplay Subscribers Find the Music Online

Verity K2 Catalog makes it easier, faster to retrieve songs online

SUNNYVALE, CA - 2002-03-19 - Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software powering enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, is providing pressplay, the online music company with Verity® K2 Catalog software to bring advanced search and navigation capabilities to pressplay's subscribers.

"This agreement with Verity provides pressplay's customers with one of the best search functionalities available," said pressplay CEO Andy Schuon. "Verity's technology enables our subscribers to easily navigate through the pressplay service quickly and accurately, and leverage the breadth and diversity of music in our online catalog."

Pressplay, which launched its service in December 2001, offers its members the ability to stream, download and burn songs onto CDs from a vast online library that includes music from the world's three largest record companies - Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Recorded Music - as well as numerous independent labels. Pressplay enables subscribers to stream music, as well as build expansive, personalized music collections by continually adding downloaded tracks each month, which they can enjoy as long as they subscribe to the service. Pressplay also allows its members to create personal compilations by burning a certain amount of their downloaded tracks to CDs.

"Pressplay is blazing new ground in the online music marketplace, and we are proud that Verity's technology is a core component," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. "We've learned that online shoppers expect to find what they want within seconds, or they'll go somewhere else. Verity has more experience than anyone else in helping online music destinations and other online stores turn browsers into buyers by helping buyers search for and find what they want quickly and easily."

K2 Catalog - Helping Turn Browsers into Buyers

Pressplay will implement Verity's K2 Catalog technology. K2 Catalog offers a variety of features that made it the ideal solution for pressplay. For example, its "fuzzy search" capability helps customers find artists even when the name is spelled incorrectly or phonetically.

Verity K2 Catalog's scalability and fault-tolerance were also critical features for an online service expecting significant traffic. Brokered search ensures that load is distributed evenly across multiple servers, maintaining performance even as customers increase or in case of a hardware failure.
