HEALTHvision Integrates Autonomy's Technology For Healthcare Web Solutions
San Francisco, CA-March 14, 2002- Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that HEALTHvision, Inc., a leading healthcare Internet company, is integrating Autonomy's technology into its secure, Web-based infrastructure, e-healthSOURCE™, to enable hospitals and other healthcare systems to deliver comprehensive, tailored information to physicians, patients, consumers and employees.
HEALTHvision is focused on helping health systems enhance relationships with key constituents through the delivery of Web-based applications, information and services. This is accomplished through the development or enhancement of an organization's web site or portal, to include the health system's own information and applications, and/or HEALTHvision's clinical applications and interactive resources. With Autonomy, the health system's end user will be able to retrieve data from multiple resources hosted by the health system or offered by HEALTHvision including news from Reuters, clinical reference information from MDConsult, health care content from HEALTHwise and LaurusHealth. Autonomy's technology allows the end user to efficiently locate relevant and meaningful data from these many and varied resources.
HEALTHvision is implementing Autonomy Server™, Autonomy Update™ and Autonomy's Categorizer to automate the aggregation, categorization, personalization, retrieval and delivery of healthcare information, including reference information for clinicians, general health care information and news and disease-specific information for patients.
"Autonomy gives us an efficient way to automatically manage and deliver end user access to vast amounts of information for our clients," said Scott Decker, Chief Executive Officer, HEALTHvision. "The integration into our existing architecture will allow our customers to make better use of the information they have within their organizations, and complement it with the health content and information provided by HEALTHvision."
HEALTHvision, a VHA subsidiary, implemented Autonomy's technology based on a recommendation from VHA, which also uses Autonomy. VHA is a nationwide network of community-owned health care systems and their physicians, with more than 2,200 members, including some of the nation's leading health care institutions. VHA has been using Autonomy since July 2001 for Clinical Knowledge Management (CKM), a Web-based tool created exclusively for VHA member organizations. VHA uses Autonomy to automatically retrieve, link, deliver and categorize information from the CKM application itself, internal and external Web sites, collaborative environments and various word processing documents. VHA members use CKM to share clinical improvement information, promote learning and foster innovations in clinical practice across the healthcare industry.
"The healthcare industry is dependant on vast amounts of information within hospitals and health care systems that is often extremely difficult to access and manage," said Mike Lynch, Autonomy CEO and founder. "Manual methods of tracking and distributing information do not allow practitioners to support patients effectively. VHA, HEALTHvision and Autonomy deliver health care information that is meaningful and useful, ultimately improving patient care."
Autonomy's unique intelligent data operating layer (IDOL) integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. Autonomy's infrastructure technology is used to automate operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management, business intelligence and e-business applications, among others.
