Montgomery County, Maryland Uses Autonomy's Technology For eMontgomery Portal
Autonomy Software to Streamline Citizens' Access to State and Local Agencies through Award-Winning Portal
San Francisco, Calif.-February 12, 2002-Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Montgomery County, Md. has adopted Autonomy 's technology to power eMontgomery.org. eMontgomery portal users now have access to all types of county information including maps, directions, traffic information and weather, as well as the ability to pay property taxes and parking tickets online and sign up for traffic classes at one Web site, www.emontgomery.org.
Autonomy's technology automates the categorization and delivery of information to eMontgomery.org from various agencies and organizations such as the Parking and Planning Commission, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission and Montgomery County College. Montgomery County purchased Autonomy Server and Autonomy Application Builder™ to manage, categorize and deliver community content efficiently and automatically for 870,000 Montgomery County citizens.
"Our mission is to provide citizens with vital up-to-date information and services they need without having to manually search the Web for county services and information. Our portal provides everything from tax information to virtual tours of the county in a way that is efficient and useful," said Kevin Novak, Manager of eMontgomery for Montgomery County's Department of Information Systems and Telecommunications. "One of the keys to success for the eMontgomery site is the ability for Autonomy to spider out and find information that resides in many different locations and formats and deliver it to the user in a way that meets his or her needs. Autonomy's technology provided the best solution for the management of all of this disparate data in a way that could be easily accessed through eMontgomery."
"Governments need to give their citizens access to useful information and services that is often scattered across organizations and agencies with no viable way to provide access to this information," said Mike Lynch, Autonomy CEO and founder. "Montgomery County is leading the way for other state and local governments to simplify their citizens' lives by making the resources of the county readily available."
Autonomy's technology automatically consolidates county government and other information from numerous data formats including Web pages, MS Word documents, SQL, Oracle, and Access databases. Because of the ease of accessing a wealth of information through the portal, eMontgomery placed second out of over 400 in the "Best of the Web" awards given by Government Technology and the Center for Digital Government to state and local governments.
Autonomy integrates information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within them. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, business intelligence, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
