Verity Listed As A Leader In The Magic Quadrant For Enterprise Search
IT Research Firm Cites Verity's Vision and Ability to Execute
SUNNYVALE, CA - 2002-02-11 - In a just-released report from Gartner, Inc., an independent research firm, Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, was listed as a leader in the Gartner 2002 Enterprise Search Magic Quadrant.*
"I am pleased that Verity has been listed as a leader in this year's Enterprise Search Magic Quadrant," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. "This further demonstrates to our customers and potential customers that we have exceptional ability to execute and great vision for their future requirements. We are committed to continuing to address the needs of our customers with new products and new technologies."
Verity was determined by Gartner to be listed as a "Leader" in Enterprise Search. Gartner evaluates vendors in specific information technology markets and based on vision and ability to execute their vision and positions them within one of four segments: "Leaders," "Visionaries," "Challengers," or "Niche Players." Gartner defines "Leaders" as those vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market. The study pointed out that to be a leader, in this instance in Enterprise Search, sustained investment in technology and a good range of OEM relationships are necessary to achieve a strong market position.

Gartner's permission to print or reference its Magic Quadrant should not be deemed to be an endorsement of any company or product depicted in the quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is Gartner's opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner-defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the Leaders segment. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player segments may be the right match for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant. Gartner research is intended to be one of many information sources and the reader should not rely solely on the Magic Quadrant for decision-making.
