Autonomy Announces Integration With Sybase® Enterprise Portal

Autonomy Offers Portlets for Sybase Enterprise Portal 2.5

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., January 22, 2002 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Nasdaq Europe: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that it will provide five portlets that can be seamlessly integrated with the latest version of Sybase Enterprise Portal(EP) 2.5. The portlets include the Agent Portlet, Profile Portlet, Community Portlet, Expertise Locator Portlet and Retrieval Portlet. Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:NY) has chosen Autonomy's technology for information categorization, personalization and retrieval services within the Sybase Enterprise Portal framework.

According to Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch, business critical information does not reside in one place. "Today's employee must access a wide variety of applications to get the information they need for their jobs because applications do not share information," said Lynch. "This is a highly inefficient process. Not only does the employee have to understand how to use each application, he must also interrupt his work to pull together relevant data."

"Sybase EP 2.5 simplifies how people access and utilize the increasing amount of information and applications within their organization, because it provides a single, secure interface," said Billy Ho, senior vice president and general manager, e-Business Division, Sybase. "We selected Autonomy's infrastructure technology because it directly supports this goal. Autonomy's portlets automatically integrate people and content from multiple repositories based on an understanding of the concepts within the information. This makes it easier for employees to access the information and people they need to get their jobs done more efficiently."

Sybase Enterprise Portal 2.5 is a portal framework that enables productive human interaction with enterprise information, applications, and processes. The scalable, secure architecture framework makes it easy and cost-effective for customers to add advanced portal capabilities as their requirements evolve. Autonomy's portlets will allow Sybase customers to seamlessly add additional functionality to their portals.

  • Agent Portlet allows individual users to create their own personalized information channels using natural language, keywords, Boolean phrases or by example. The agents continually monitor and automatically alert the user in real-time as new information becomes available.
  • Community Portlet allows users to view and copy relevant agents created by their peers. In addition, it allows users to send an email to a similar agent owner. The portlet combines the benefit of collaboration and the reduction of duplication of effort.
  • Profile Portlet automatically creates a profile of each user based on the concepts within the documents that the user has been tracking with their agents. Profiles are automatically updated to reflect current interests.
  • Expertise Locator Portlet allows users to find experts within the organization by simply entering a description of the subject matter. The portlet returns all agents, profiles and names of users who own the agents.
  • Retrieval Portlet uses Autonomy's unique concept-matching technology and allows content to be searched in any language and any format, wherever it is stored and presented with automatic hyperlinks in real-time to similar information.

"Sybase was one of the first companies to join Autonomy's OEM partner program and use our infrastructure technology to automate the aggregation, classification and delivery of unstructured information within their enterprise portal," commented Lynch. "Together we have had great success with deployments in the federal, defense and intelligence markets. We are pleased to expand our technology's role within the Sybase product family."

Autonomy's unique infrastructure technology integrates information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information.
