Cardiff Software's LiquidOffice™ v2.0 Converts Proprietary Files Compromised By Potential Acquisition of Accelio™ Corporation

Looming Vendor Consolidation Reinforces Trend Toward XML, HTML, XForms and PDF; Cardiff's Conversion Tool Enables Easy Migration from Legacy File Formats

San Diego - 2002-01-10 - Cardiff Software Inc., a leader in XML-based business process automation solutions, today announced improved conversion capabilities within LiquidOffice v2 for migrating from Accelio (formerly Jetform), and other proprietary form standards into open, industry standards that include XML, HTML, XForms and PDF.

As many organizations seek to migrate from legacy client-server eForm applications to Web-enabled offerings, and in light of Open Text Corporation's (NASDAQ: OTEX) unsolicited offer to acquire Accelio (NASDAQ: ACLO; TSE: LIO), Cardiff's improved conversion capabilities are a timely consideration.

"Every time technology vendors consolidate, organizations face the real possibility of being abandoned," explained analyst Steve Weissman, president of the research and consulting firm, Kinetic Information. "Cardiff wards off this danger by offering a solution that easily converts proprietary or obsolete files to industry standard formats that can then be used with any conforming system."

Cardiff's commitment to Web-based industry standards reduces risk to government and business organizations by facilitating smooth transitions between changing technologies and vendors, resulting in significant cost savings by allowing organizations to leverage their existing investments and infrastructures while implementing automated transaction processes.

"As an established innovator in forms and business process automation, Cardiff has long been aware of the need to provide migration paths from legacy formats," said Dennis Clerke, president and CEO of Cardiff Software. "Our LiquidOffice v2.0 solution offers seamless eForm conversion, which provides organizations the means to easily convert legacy forms into an open, integrated Web-based eForms environment."

While conversion technology plays an important role in the migration to open standardsóessential to broad user acceptanceóother aspects are equally important. For example, compatibility with current industry-accepted standards as opposed to proprietary variations of XML is commonly overlooked. In December 2001, the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) published a draft XML specification for Web forms called "XForms" that can be used with a wide variety of platforms including desktop computers, handheld devices, information appliances, and paper. Working group charter members from Netscape/AOL, Mozquito, IBM, Xerox, PureEdge, and other leading companies have come together to develop this standard.

By design, XForms is not dependent upon a specific way of presenting a form, yet defines clearly the model for data collected from forms. Cardiff's XML capabilities within its market-leading eForm and Information Capture solutions allows organizations to connect paper, HTML and Adobe PDF forms to XML applications on the Internet. XForms will connect Cardiff solutions to even more applications by standardizing the XML data model.

"Cardiff has been a consistent proponent of open standards for eForms," added Mark Seamans, chief technology officer for Cardiff Software. "By leveraging XML, HTML and PDF, this promises to be the last migration customers will have to make."
