NEW YORK, NY - December 11, 2001 - [NASDAQ: VRGE] At Streaming Media East 2001 today, Virage, Inc. announced the release of VS Webcasting™, a product that allows corporations to self-produce live and on-demand webcasting events such as executive communications, human resource broadcasts, and market announcements. Using VS Webcasting, organizations can schedule and deliver interactive live webcasts that include audio and video synchronized with slide presentations and documents as well as audience polls and questions. At the same time, VS Webcasting creates a searchable, on-demand version of the event that is available minutes after the live broadcast is over.
"VS Webcasting provides a cost-effective solution for any organization that wishes to produce live webcasts for internal or external corporate communications," said Dave Girouard, senior vice president of products and services for Virage. "Our solution not only improves the management and delivery of the live event but also automates the process of turning each event into a valuable, searchable repository of corporate knowledge. With VS Webcasting, you get both live and on-demand corporate content without the hassle of having to repurpose your media. It's ready to go."
VS Webcasting provides event administrators with all of the necessary tools to schedule a live webcast, notify attendees and manage an event. Real-time management tools provide complete control during the event to ensure maximum audience participation and high quality information delivery. Audience members are provided with an integrated, interactive viewing experience for accessing information and participating in the event. From the comfort of their desktops, viewers can watch the live event, review associated PowerPoint slides and other data, respond to surveys and ask questions.
VS Webcasting uses the proprietary Virage SmartEncode™ process to automatically encode and index the video during the live event. This process extracts information from the PowerPoint slides to create a table of contents and keyword index. Other information such as speaker names and locations can also be added to this index. The resulting archive enables audiences anywhere, at any time, to find and watch any part of the presentation.
"Using Virage's video management and webcasting solutions, we're communicating with employees, customers and partners through live broadcasts," said Mike Mitchell, media products manager, Internet Learning Solutions Group, Cisco Systems. "The benefits to Cisco include extensive reach with a rich media experience, archive preservation for future on-demand viewing and long-term cost savings."
With VS Webcasting, corporations have control over information dispersal and gathering both during and after the event. User authentication and secure access ensures that event administrators have total control over event registration and audience participation. User tracking and reporting allows administrators to track attendees, survey responses and audience questions.
Virage also announced today VS Publishing™, a next generation publishing solution for web-based rich media. VS Publishing is built upon the company's award-winning video application platform, already used by media & entertainment companies and others to create branded, personalized video sites for their fans, viewers and customers.
