Virage Delivers Comprehensive Video Publishing Product
SAN MATEO, Calif. - December 11, 2001 - [NASDAQ: VRGE] At Streaming Media East 2001 today, Virage, Inc. announced VS Publishing™, a next generation product for publishing web-based rich media. VS Publishing is built upon the company's award-winning video application platform, already used by customers in media & entertainment, enterprise, government and education to create branded, personalized video sites for their fans, viewers and customers.
The new turnkey publishing solution offers a streamlined workflow with simple editorial control and greater web site programming capabilities. This allows content owners to publish more content with fewer resources. VS Publishing is available from Virage as either in-house software or as a hosted service.
"We're pleased to announce an out-of-the-box solution that simplifies and automates rich-media web publishing," said Dave Girouard, senior vice president of products and services for Virage. "In recent years, we've crafted dozens of unique web publishing solutions for market leaders such as CNET, PBS and Bell Globemedia Interactive. With VS Publishing, content owners can now get the benefits of best-in-class web publishing practices in one product."
VS Publishing provides content owners with all the production and programming tools needed to create and deliver dynamic rich media programming to one or more web sites. The Virage solution give producers, editors or webmasters an easy-to-use, web-based interface for selecting, building and posting content highlights from an archive or recently broadcast event onto any part of a web site in a matter of minutes.
"The Virage publishing solution provides PBS and our local member stations with a quick and cost-effective way to go from the air to the web," said Jeremy Roberts, PBS associate director, digital content planning. "With Virage, we can take our most compelling content and put it on the Internet, front and center with complete flexibility in how we program that content online: whether it's topic-specific, online video publishing, posting a video news headline to a local PBS station's site, or integrating educational programs with related text, image and other Web content."
"With over 12 hours of streaming content every weekday, it's important for us to have a fast, efficient and easy way to get the video clips onto our websites," says Rob Adams, broadband product manager at Bell Globemedia Interactive. "Our visitors rely on timely financial news. Using Virage, we can turn around video clips from broadcast to a website in a matter of minutes, not hours."
Globemedia Interactive clips and highlights over 50 distinct interviews and news segments daily, allowing web site visitors to get to the information they want, quickly and easily. "With the sophisticated automation tools available, we are able to process this large amount of daily video with a very small and concentrated crew," adds Adams.
VS Publishing enables the construction of highlight reels of sporting events, news stories or entertainment pieces tailored to specific topics without having to go through the task of re-editing and re-encoding each new piece. The straightforward interface of VS Publishing allows users of all levels to assemble and deliver content. Any of the content can also be made available directly to viewers in a personalized, branded and browseable format. VS Publishing can be customized to suit any workflow and is fully compatible with advertising and commerce strategies, allowing the co-mingling of Virage based media with other types of content.
