Verity Joins IBM Portlet Provider Program for WebSphere Portal
Verity to Provide Easy Integration for Its Advanced Search and Classification Software to IBM WebSphere Portal Customers
SUNNYVALE, CA - 2001-12-18 - Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software powering enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, today announced that it has joined the IBM (NYSE: IBM) Portlet Provider Program to provide advanced out-of-the-box portlets for IBM WebSphere Portal. The portlets will enable joint IBM WebSphere Portal and Verity customers to integrate their portal solutions easily with Verity's advanced search and intelligent classification technologies. Verity plans to make the portlets available in early 2002.
IBM WebSphere Portal comprises customizable software packages that are essential for building business-to-employee (B2E), business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-consumer (B2C) portals. The new Verity portlets will allow IBM WebSphere Portal customers to integrate their portal solutions quickly and easily with Verity's enterprise infrastructure software, K2 Enterprise (K2E), as well as its e-business infrastructure software, K2 Catalog (K2C). The portlets will provide a high degree of flexibility to allow for the customization often required by specialized portals. The improved ease of integration will simplify the user's experience, a key requirement for successful portal implementations.
Verity's K2 Enterprise and K2 Catalog are solutions that are built on the next-generation, three-tiered information management foundation. The first tier, Discover, allows users to search quickly and securely for content using a single query; the second tier, Organize, enables them to accurately classify and categorize a vast amount of content from different repositories; and the third tier, Connect, lets them proactively connect with other knowledge experts using Verity's Social Networks technology. The highly secured and advanced knowledge retrieval and content organization features of Verity's K2E and K2C software allow enterprises to turn structured and unstructured information assets into a competitive advantage and e-merchants to convert more browsers into buyers.
"IBM WebSphere Portal is an open portal framework supporting customer choice and flexibility of components such as Verity software. Our existing joint Verity and IBM customers will immediately benefit from the pre-integrated portlets and potential customers will have additional reasons to choose IBM and Verity for their portal plans," said Larry Bowden, vice president, e-portal solutions, IBM.
"Participating in this program is an important development in Verity's long-standing relationship with IBM," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. "Verity's advanced portal infrastructure software improves knowledge sharing with employees and customers. We are pleased to join the IBM Portlet Provider Program to provide our joint customers with easy integration for their portal solutions."
