Panel at Fall Internet World to Reveal Verity's Vision for the Future of Peer to Peer Within the Enterprise

Security, ROI, cultural issues on agenda

SUNNYVALE, CA. - 2001-12-10 - Visitors to this year's Fall Internet World show will have the opportunity to learn about the newest corporate information-sharing technologies and techniques, by attending a panel discussion on the importance of peer to peer technology within the enterprise. Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, will, for the first time, disclose its vision for the future of P2P, "Personal to Portal" as well as its philosophies on maintaining adequate privacy and security, despite the convenient access to data made possible by P2P.

The 50-minute panel, called Peer to Peer Networking and the Enterprise, will be moderated by Pulitzer Prize nominee and Fast Company contributing editor John Ellis, and will be held Thursday, December 13th at 4:00 p.m. at Fall Internet World, at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. In addition to Verity's Principal Architect, Dr. Rajat Mukherjee, the panel will feature representatives from other important players in the peer to peer arena, including Groove Networks, Inc., DataSynapse, Inc., and Netrana.

Privacy and security within the enterprise, which are areas that Verity has significant expertise with, will be key topics at this important panel discussion at Fall Internet World," said Verity's Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Prabhakar Raghavan. "We've always ensured that the privacy and security of our customers' data, including some of the largest companies in the world, has been maintained, even while offerings such as our K2 Enterprise have made it easier than ever to find and share information. We will utilize that experience to ensure that our upcoming peer to peer-oriented technology will deliver the same high levels of privacy and security. In particular, our technology, in conjunction with existing business rules and corporate policy, will allow users to determine which of their files will be shared, and which groups and users will have access to those files."

Attendees at the panel will also learn how each company is using P2P technology to provide benefits to its customers, as well as how each company addresses issues such as return on investment for peer to peer technology, as well as the cultural issues associated with using the technology. Following the panel discussion, all panelists will be available for questions from the audience.

Verity's upcoming peer to peer-oriented technology is based, in part, on its well-received federated infrastructure technology. That federated infrastructure was first made available in July 2001 as part of the highly successful Verity K2 Enterprise offering.
