Verity to Advocate XML Content Support for Enterprises at Special XML World Conference Session

SUNNYVALE, CA. - 2001-11-26 - Rajat Mukherjee, Ph.D., a principal architect at Verity, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRTY) will discuss the importance of deploying XML support on an enterprise-wide basis at the upcoming XML World Conference in San Francisco. His remarks will come in a conference session titled 'XML Content Support' on Wednesday, November 28, at 3 p.m. Dr. Mukherjee will highlight how XML technology will significantly enhance e-business functions over the coming years, particularly in terms of facilitating knowledge management processes. Verity is a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications.

XML (Extensible Markup Language) is an increasingly popular way to create common information formats and data for use on the World Wide Web, intranets and elsewhere. Gartner Group, a technology research and advisory firm, predicts that by 2003, approximately 60 percent of customer and business Websites will use XML as a common computer language. This will facilitate information retrieval across hundreds of file types and information systems. Verity is among the companies whose software allows businesses to organize and search XML content, while its K2 portal infrastructure software uses XML technology to enable advanced search, content organization and personalization of information.

XML is an emerging computer format that has changed the way businesses interact electronically among themselves and with customers. We are seeing a strong demand for XML support for information retrieval, as many content providers are increasing their XML offerings," said Dr. Mukherjee. "XML represents an important trend in business communications and automation, and enterprises that do not adopt this technology risk being marginalized with outmoded capabilities."

Dr. Mukherjee will also discuss the use of XML technology to enable federated search across different repositories, a capability that gives users a single secure point from which to retrieve data from different systems.
