Verity to Power United States Air Force's "Immensely Complex" New Portal
Air Force Personnel, Families and Contractors to Utilize Verity's Software to Access Critical Information Quickly and Easily on My.AirForce Portal
SUNNYVALE, CA. - 2001-10-30 - When the United States Air Force consolidates intranets from 110 global bases into a single portal early next year, up to 1.2 million authorized users will have an advanced and highly secured tool to quickly and accurately access information on everything from deployment logistics to local family services. Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of infrastructure software that powers enterprise and e-commerce portals as well as e-business applications, today announced that the United States Air Force will deploy a suite of Verity's K2-based portal infrastructure software for the advanced search and organization of millions of pages of content, including confidential information, on its new My.AirForce portal.
The Air Force will use Verity's K2 software in tandem with BroadVision's InfoExchange Portal to help our personnel and support contractors find critical information quickly and easily," said Lt. Col. Mark Bryant, U.S. Air Force portal program manager. "My.AirForce is an immensely complex portal project that connects more than 28,000 legacy information systems and over 1,500 Air Force Web sites and intranets associated with USAF bases around the world. In head-to-head testing against other proposed solutions, Verity demonstrated the capability to meet Air Force requirements and integrate with existing systems."
The My.AirForce portal will be a USAF-operated site where authorized users can take advantage of a number of online services. Aircraft maintenance personnel, for example, will be able to search for parts and update the repair status of jet fighters through My.AirForce. Personnel moving to new bases can get information about local schools, shopping and entertainment. Contractors will be able to retrieve specifications that help them design new military facilities and equipment. Verity's K2-based portal infrastructure software will enable the My.AirForce portal administrators to seamlessly organize vast amounts of relevant information and immediately point My.Airforce users to content they need.
My.AirForce will be an invaluable one-stop information service to the men and women of the United States Air Force and to the people who support them," said Anthony J. Bettencourt, president of Verity. "We are proud that the USAF sought Verity's experience to power an ambitious enterprise portal. We are confident that Verity K2-based portal infrastructure software will deliver the quality and performance that the USAF demands for secure, highly scalable search and retrieval of valuable online content."
My.AirForce will incorporate a suite of Verity K2-based portal infrastructure software to help users discover what they need, organize what they find, and connect to millions of pages of critical information. These K2-based features include:
▪ K2 Spider with 128-bit SSL Encryption: Indexes and stores documents in hundreds of formats from thousands of internal and external locations so that users can find content quickly and with the highest available security.
▪ Intelligent Classification and Content Organization: Fuses machine efficiency and human understanding to help users automatically navigate through familiar directories and categories to find exactly what they need.
