U.S. Department Of Commerce To Deploy Autonomy Infrastructure Technology For Export.Gov
Online Reference Tool to Provide Key Data to U.S. Companies Selling Products Internationally
San Francisco-October 30, 2001-Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; Nasdaq Europe: AUTN; LSE: AU.), a leading provider of infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the United States Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration will use Autonomy's Portal-In-a-Box™ for the upcoming Export.gov project.
Export.gov is designed to increase U.S. economic power by providing companies with the information they need to successfully market and sell their products overseas. The site, scheduled to launch in November, will compile information from more than twenty-two federal agencies involved in export promotion, and deliver it on a public Web page. Autonomy's technology will easily integrate related information from the disparate sources. Through the Export.gov portal, users will have personalized access to information such as financing, insurance, market research, promotion programs and counseling.
"Export.gov helps to simplify the process of selling goods and services overseas by giving companies all the resources they need in one location," said Gordon Keller, director of Export.gov for the Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration. "One of the keys to success for the Export.gov site, is to bring information in any form together, and deliver it to the user in a targeted format that meets their needs. Autonomy's technology provided the best solution for the management and personalization of all of this disparate data with a low operating cost."
Autonomy's Portal-in-a-Box technology will automatically consolidate government data in more than six languages and countless data formats such as Web pages, word processor documents, database data and streaming content for the site. Through Autonomy's personalization feature, users will be able to establish exactly what they want to see from the site, and Autonomy's technology will automatically provide only the most relevant data from the knowledge base. In the future, Autonomy's profiling technology will help users identify other experts on-line, creating powerful communities of interest and enabling collaboration.
"With a constantly-changing international business environment, having up-to-the minute data is absolutely essential to today's global business," said Richard Gaunt, Autonomy's chief technology officer and co-founder. "Because Autonomy's technology can understand and process any format of document automatically, government employees don't have to worry about delays or manually adding documents and information to the system. If someone creates it, and it is relevant, Autonomy will find it."
Autonomy integrates information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content. At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyze text and voice (in any language) and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It then automatically categorizes, links, personalizes and delivers that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, business intelligence, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
