Global Mail And Distribution Company Chooses Autonomy To Power Electronic Information Initiatives
Consignia integrates Autonomy's technology with new transactional portal
CAMBRIDGE, England, 19 October 2001 - Autonomy Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AUTN; LSE: AU., Europe Nasdaq: AUTN), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that Consignia, the government-owned group which runs the UK's Royal Mail, Post Office and Parcelforce Worldwide companies, has purchased Autonomy's technology to automate content delivery on its new transactional e-channel, due to be launched later this year.
Under the terms of the contract, Autonomy's technology will automate the aggregation, categorisation and delivery of information to customers under the Royal Mail, Post Office and Parcelforce brands. Autonomy will enable Consignia to create a customer-centric content engine by ensuring that visitors to the site receive the information that is most appropriate to their needs and interests, thus making their interaction with the site more productive.
By automating the information delivery on the site, Autonomy will also help Consignia to reduce costs, as there will no longer be a need to organise and link content manually - a labour-intensive and therefore costly process.
Richard Gaunt, co-founder and CTO of Autonomy Corporation, commented: "We are very pleased that Consignia, a prestigious global organisation with a pedigree that goes back over 300 years to the earliest days of the postal service, has chosen Autonomy to support its strategy for managing its existing and future online services across multiple channels. Autonomy's ability to automate business information processes makes it a natural fit for Consignia's continuing evolution."
Paul Kelsall, IS Director of the e-enterprise unit at Consignia, said: "We believe that advanced technologies like Autonomy's will play a key role in the success of our strategy moving forward. With Autonomy software, we will create an exciting portal with fresh, up-to-date content and transactions. It is important to us that we ensure that our customers have easy access to information and products. By using the advanced features of Autonomy's such as automatic categorisation and automatic taxonomy creation, we will create intuitive access to vital information."
At the heart of Autonomy's software is its ability to analyse text and voice and identify and rank the main concepts within it. It can then automatically categorise, link, personalise and deliver that information. The technology is used to automate these operations within enterprise information portals, customer relationship management, knowledge management and e-business applications.
